As if pregnancy wasn’t a strong enough dose of responsibility and reality, the diet control is intense. When you really sit down to think of the old saying “you are what you eat” and then translate that saying to pregnancy it blows the mind. If my baby is making a pancreas today and I eat only bright orange junk food chips then my baby’s pancreas will be made up of the radioactive cheese and salt I sat down to eat on the couch. Yikes.
Theoretically it is no problem for me to take extra care to eat nutritious meals and snacks through the pregnancy. Practically though, I feel like the nausea and exhaustion writes me a free pass to just eat whatever it is that I can choke down and keep down. Sigh. No such luck. Suck it up Mama, this bite is for the kid! I will take one for the team though, because it is only temporary misery for me and translates to the building blocks that will last for the babies’ lifetimes!
