Prelanguage communication is so interesting (in a text book). Meanwhile, here in real life, it makes me want to buy stock in any company who has created ear plugs for drowning out the more high pitched frequencies that could cover the sound of infant wailing. “Whaaaaaa” = I am hungry. “Whaaaa” = I am tired. “Ehhhhh, ehhhhh” = pick me up. “Wheaaaahhhyyyeeeeee” = don’t hide my cracker in the box! Ahhh.
I can’t wait until my child has words for these things. She is past the age of baby noises, and on to full blown antics and dramatic effect. Unfortunately there is a complete lack of variety to the communication she offers, and instead a wide range of high pitched noises and a symphony of whines that she has created to wrap me around her finger. It is actually very adaptive and necessary. I should feel proud. She is learning cause and effect, and her own power within the world to obtain a desired outcome. Yippee. So difficult to celebrate a milestone of development when it comes at the cost of sanity.
